WE PLAY TOGETHER WITH MELLEMBLOND AT ISLANDS BRYGGE KULTURHUS IN COPENHAGEN THIS FRIDAY 18. MAY!

Behind the scenes for the GoGoGoGoGo video at the beautiful Funkhaus Berlin!

Raised outta Denmark and now based in our much-beloved home Berlin, Straight From The Harp caught our attention with these two wonderfully artsy fartsy DIY-videos and a genre-defying post-punk-electro-blues sound.

Interview at HørLigeHer

A short questionnaire for the Danish boy/girl outfit Straight From The Harp. The band will release their second longplay “I’m On Fire Just For You” ultimo May and here’s some of the upcoming stuff: Both video and music is created by the band, and streaming of not-yet-released “Be Together” is exclusively brought to you by HørLigeHer on behalf of the band. With a residence in Berlin this band got the finger on the pulse, however, these guys loves to keep it classic. Read an interview with a really promising and cool band (and sorry for the little research mistake, guys… ).

HørLigeHer: Straight From the Harp, a musical statement? What’s behind your band name?
Straight From The Harp: Ha ha yes we know, we get a lot of comments about it. The band name has suffered some hard times and people even wanted us to change it. But it has stood through it all. It is like an ugly puppy that you grow to love.

HLH: You will release your debut in May. Can you reveal a few words about it?
SFTH: It is actually our second album. Most of the album was recorded during winter time in our old and very cold apartment in Berlin. The room in which we were recording was overlooking the train tracks and a very large supermarket. Both influenced the album a lot. It is dreamy, sexy, cheap and powerful at the same time.

HLH: This intense sound and your powerful images. Where does the inspiration come from?
SFTH: We love delta blues and 50´s rock n´ roll music. We consider it our finest mission in life to bring the blues safely and sexily into the future.
Stylewise we are very fascinated by the classic man and woman looks of the fifties and sixties, especially Alfred Hitchcock´s stylist Edith Head who created some beautiful outfits and combinations.
Chinese director Wong Kar-Wai is also an inspiration. Just beautiful. Check him out if you don´t know him already.

HLH: Any records in heavy rotation at the moment?
SFTH: We recently watched HBO series Treme and have been listening to a lot of Professor Longhair and Irma Thomas since. An album called “Sacred Hawaiian Melodies” by Bud Tutmarc have been a recent favorite as well. It is the kind of music that brightens up the darkest of days and generally makes the world a better place. We found it along with lots of other good stuff at the great music blog Ghost Capital which everyone ought to pay a visit some time.

HLH: What’s you guys’ favorite cheese?
SFTH: Signe likes brie and Jarno likes blue cheese.

It´s taken from our upcoming album ‘I´m On Fire Just For You’ and is A DIY YouTube-Mash-Up-Extravaganza made by ourselves. We were inspired by footage from different dance styles from this century and we wanted to show the beauty of all dance arts from Oriental Dance, GoGo Dance and Ballet. And the beauty of love too of course!!!

Live Berlin at a private party….

While listening to “GoGoGoGoGo” you can almost taste the sand in your mouth. And you can feel… sexy. But not “lady-sexy” style, more like a pugnacious girl (or boy) without any complexes. And you feel the need to smoke a cigarette while listening to “GoGoGoGoGo”. Even if you usualy don’t smoke…
